A Comprehensive Guide to Home Juicing for Health and Wellness

Juicing is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to do. And, no, I’m not talking about “detoxing" via a juice cleanse. I would never advise anyone to punish themselves like that. I’m talking about making your own specialty juices right in your own kitchen!

I’ve only had my juicer a few weeks, but already it’s saving me so much time and energy. I love making ginger wellness shots, and I used to make them literally every day. I wouldn’t bother straining the juice, but I spent energy every day cutting up fruit to pulverize in my single-serve Ninja. After making these shots in bulk, and using an amazing juicer to do it, I’m never going back.

Juicing at home is better for your health than buying juice from stores. Making your own juice means it doesn't have extra stuff like sugar or preservatives. You get to choose the fresh fruits and veggies you want to use, which have lots of good stuff like vitamins and antioxidants. Also, homemade juice has more nutrients because you drink it right away, unlike store-bought juice that might sit on shelves for a long time. When you make your own juice, you can mix different flavors and make recipes that are good for your health.

To make your own juice at home, you'll need a few key pieces of equipment. First, a high-quality juicer is essential for efficiently extracting juice from fruits and vegetables. Look for a juicer with a powerful motor and easy cleanup to streamline the process. Additionally, a large mixing cup with a spout will serve you well when making a large batch of juice. Mason jars or airtight containers are perfect for storing your fresh juice, keeping it as nutritious as possible. I like these mini glass bottles for my concentrated wellness shots, and these larger glass bottles for regular juice. By having these essential pieces of equipment, you can easily and effectively create delicious, homemade juice in the comfort of your own kitchen.

When working with your juicer for the first time, there will be a learning curve so make sure you read the manufacturer’s instructions. In general, you will need to peel fruits and vegetables before juicing them, but some models require that you remove large pits or seeds as well.

When picking juice flavors, consider your personal preferences and complementary flavors. Think about favorite fruits and flavors – sweeter options like strawberry and banana, or tangy options like lemon and raspberry. Experiment to find a balance of sweetness and acidity. Also, consider your preferences in other foods and drinks. This will provide insight on juice combinations you’re likely to enjoy.
